1) Direct democracy is a terrible idea. Look at California. Interest groups will pay large amounts of money to get people to vote for bad laws and lawmakers won&#039;t resist since the advertising campaign will generate lots of public support.

2) Here&#039;s an argument why ethics matter more for a politician than a surgeon. If you die at the hands of a surgeon, nobody cares but you and your friends/family. But if a politician uses public money, everyone cares a little bit, and their whining adds up through the magic of aggregation.</description>
